About the Speaker
Elena Balan is a social worker at the Association of Women in Legal Careers, an organization promoting women's rights in Chisinau. She is responsible for project planning, implementation and evaluation for the organization's Center for Prevention of Trafficking in Women. The center provides legal and social services, as well as vocational training programs for victims of human trafficking, in order to facilitate their reintegration. It also carries out trainings for law enforcement and judiciary aiming at strengthening their capacities in prosecuting trafficking crimes. Elena has been coordinating a training program for trafficking victims to help develop their communication and interpersonal skills. Elena Balan is currently an international guest of the International Center for Tolerance Education, An Initiative of the Third Millennium Foundation.
