About the Organization
WE ACT for Environmental Justice (WE ACT) is a 19-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to building community power to fight environmental racism and improve environmental health, protection and policy in communities of color. One of the most respected environmental justice organizations in the nation, WE ACT has been honored by public and private entities for its work on securing the passage of legislation to protect the environmental health of minority populations. WE ACT is working with and within the City of New York to ensure that development of the City's infrastructure is both sustainable and healthy.

Internship Position:
Development Intern

Intern Responsibilities:
Following are some of the activities with which we expect the Development Intern will be involved:

  1. Identify a group of socially conscious corporations and foundations that WE ACT can reach out to for funding to support our conference and dinner event

  2. Create a user-friendly and up-to-date contact database of these potential funders

  3. Develop and implement a plan to get WE ACT on potential funders' "radars"

  4. Develop a list of government grant sources that WE ACT can pursue for funding of our conference

  5. Research and write an essay on the history of the environmental justice movement worldwide

  6. Assemble newspaper articles on environmental justice worldwide

  7. Work out of WE ACT’s offices at 271 West 125th Street

  8. Conduct minor administrative tasks like making phone calls or doing mass mailings as needed

  9. Participate in bi-weekly Development Department meetings at WE ACT's office
