About the Organization:
Modeled after the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Museum of Tolerance, the New York Tolerance Center (NYTC) is the city's first state-of-the-art interactive training and educational facility. The Center provides participants with an intensive educational and experiential program that utilizes interactive exhibits, multi-media presentations, videos, and facilitated discussion to explore issues of tolerance, prejudice, and responsibility in the workplace and in the community. Visitors are engaged in dialogues on contemporary and historical issues through exhibits such as The Point of View Diner, The Millennium Machine, the Power of Words and Images, and the Hall of Memory.

Position: Summer Youth Programs Intern
Start date: Summer 2008
Intern spots: 1
Intern will work out of both the New York Tolerance Center office and the Simon Wiesenthal Center NY office.

Intern Roles:

  • Assist in the implementation of a brand new summer program for youth
  • Assist with summer seminar series
  • Serve as docents for 2.5 hr long group tours. (Interns will receive training on exhibit content and relevant facilitating skills)
  • Assist in research and mailings for outreach efforts
  • Data Entry into excel and access
  • Prepare participant packets and materials
  • Other administrative support tasks

Preferred Skills:
Strong communication and public speaking, interest in human rights issues, knowledge of United States History, comfort working with adolescents and youth, enthusiasm, patience, and a willingness to learn.
