Rock It and Wrap It Up (Rock It)
Information | Guidelines | Locations
LGS Rock It and Wrap It Up started in Spring of 2007 to donate unserved food to local charities. Molloy’s Hunger Symposium held in Spring of 2007 inspired Matthew Sanfilippo and Brittany Consigili to form the LGS chapter of Rock It and Wrap It Up ("Rock It"). LGS Scholars felt that Rock It would fulfill one of LGS’s goals of community responsibility. In the beginning, LGS Scholars looked for on-campus events that would have unserved food left over. They worked with Lackmann to gain access to this food. Students then had to properly package it according to Rock It’s standards, and find a place to donate it, through a process called a "food run." LGS Rock It has donated food to the Mary Brennen INN, Belmont Racetrack Chaplaincy, and My Brother’s Keeper, all non-profit organizations in the immediate area. Recently Rock It has expanded, cooperating with the Waldorf School of Garden City and collecting their unserved food on a weekly basis and donating it. As of today, Rock It has successfully collected and donated over 60lbs of food. Read more about how the LGS Scholars work with "Rock It"
With the help of many other LGS Scholars, "Rock It" is now in Stage II, establishing regular donors Off campus. The future goal is to set up Chapters in nearby high schools.

Rock it and Wrap is Up was founded in 1990, and developed the concept of 'contractual obligation of leftover food'. With over 150 bands now participating, RWU has gained national recognition feeding over 30,000,000 people since 1990. Today over one hundred High Schools and Universities have established a Chapter around the United States. Donors are protected by the The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan ACT passed by Congress in 1996. The Receivers of Donated food are Shelters, INNs, and Soup Kitchens in and around Garden City. Their Information can be found on the Location's Page.
