About the Organization:
Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) serves the community by providing access to health services, sexuality education and information so that adolescents, women and men can make informed and responsible choices about their lives. Serving the community since 1933, Planned Parenthood provides high quality affordable comprehensive reproductive and primary health care and counseling services with respect and confidentiality; sexuality education and training programs for teens, young adults, parents and professionals; and leadership and advocacy for public policies that preserve choice and guarantee individual rights. We believe that, taken together, these efforts strengthen families and improve the quality of life in our communities.
Position:
Public Affairs Intern
Intern Responsibilities:
- Facilitate outreach programs at colleges, community fairs, concerts and other campus events to educate people about choice issues.
- Act as on-campus representative of Planned Parenthood and help coordinate the activities of pro-choice students.
- Attend coalition and committee meetings and legislative strategy sessions, and participate in visits to local legislators.
- Assist in planning, publicizing and coordinating campus programs in collaboration with faculty, campus organizations, residential life staff and other interested groups.
- Work with Public Affairs staff and volunteers on in-center and community outreach.
Qualifications:
The candidate should have a demonstrated interest in community organizing, and a commitment to the mission of PPNC. He or she should possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, combined with above average written and oral communication skills. Computer skills and some office skills are required. Students from all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
