About the Organization:
LTI is a community-based non-profit human services agency with non-profit status located in Hempsteaad, NY. Established in 1968, LTI projects and programs have served Long Island for nearly four decades, primarily working with youth, families and communities with education, economic and social disadvantages.
LTI services include School-based Mentoring for Children of Greatest Need, Mentoring for Children of Prisoners, Gang Prevention Coordination Assistance, Alternative Education Services, Secure and non-Secure Juvenile Detention Services, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education, Capacity Building Service for Faith and Community Based Agencies, Reentry Services for Ex-offendors, and Employment Services for Youth and Adults. College student volunteers are assigned to programs based on their interest, availability and program need.
Some internship duties involve going to Long Island schools to regularly mentor at-risk students.
- One program provides after school mentoring to at-risk youth after school.
- One program provides mentoring to children of prisoners after school and on weekends. Interns would mentor a student for one hour at a time. Some of this will be done at the Hempstead Housing Authority, 760 Jerusalem Avenue in Uniondale, N.Y. 11553
- Interns can teach workshops at the Nassau County Juvenile Detention Center or in group homes.
- Other office work is available as well.
