Why Community Internships?
LGS wants its Levermore Scholars to expand and strengthen their community bonds and civic engagement in local affairs. Through community internships the Levermore Scholars learn about the nature of specific local issues and explore the reasons for the emergence and persistence of social problems in a given community. This experience is crucial for the intellectual, social and personal growth of each Levermore Scholar.

---
Which Organizations and What is Required?
Levermore Scholars undertake community internships in various public, private and non-for-profit organizations in Long Island and NYC while taking courses at Adelphi. For the list of potential internship places click here. This type of internships requires a good deal of commitment to social activism and enthusiasm for helping others.

---
Credits & Time Commitment
Levermore Scholars earn between 1 to 3 credits for their community internship and are required to intern for 4-10 hours per week for a semester while taking courses at Adelphi. It may be possible to do less intensive internships or to work fewer weeks for more hours. A rough estimate is 1 Adelphi credit equals 50 hours of internship.

---
Internship Requirements
Community internship requirements include:
  1. internship presentation;
  2. a summary of at least two informational interviews with employees;
  3. a final project report focused on the subject(s) of the internship.

The organization makes a final review and selection. Some organizations may also want to conduct an interview with a scholar in person or by phone.
