About the Organization:
The Interfaith Nutrition Network addresses issues of hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food (through 19 soup kitchens), shelter (through 3 emergency shelters), and support services in a dignified and respectful manner for those who seek our help. We are a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization with a dedicated staff, a broad base of community support and a commitment to educate the public about these issues.

Intern Responsibilities:
Following are some of the activities with which we expect the intern to be involved in on any given day:
- Greet guests and hand out meal tickets as they enter the soup kitchen
- Facilitate the shower area for guests wishing to take showers
- Assist in the preparation and/or serving of the meal for the day
- Receive in food donations, sort and stock food items, prepare take-home grocery bags for guests who are in need of food
- Receive in clothing donations, sort through and hang clothes, assist guests in finding specific clothing to meet their needs
- Clean the facility and prepare for the next day
- Answer phones & assist with administrative duties
Preferred Skills:
Ability to work in a fast-pace environment, friendly, treats everyone with dignity and respect, dependable, positive attitude, patient and the willingness to learn and be flexible. Intern must like to be in a hands-on environment and be able to work in an atmosphere where we serve people who are in need.
