Volunteering at Holly Patterson

On Sunday, February 22nd LGS students went to the Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility for the seniors in our community. Many of the seniors staying there have heart felt stories that bring either smiles or tears. It was a chance for LGS students to experience a different environment and at the same time do community service.

Students participated in various activities at the nursing home. Some students went to the game room where they played different types of games with the elderly. Another set of students opened up a personal salon for the day and gave free manicures to the elderly. Other students organized a BINGO game; those who were not able to leave their beds were assisted by LGS students who were positioned by different rooms and played along with them. These activities were a great chance for the students to interact with the seniors and see how much care they really need. The elderly enjoyed seeing new people that are willing to spend time with them. As the day at the nursing home came to an end, LGS students served ice cream to all the seniors in their units. LGS students were encouraged to make the visit to Holly Patterson a more frequent one.
