Master of Social Work Program

Completion of the 64-credit program prepares students for direct, contemporary practice in a wide array of fields and services.

All first-year students take the same ten courses:

two consider social welfare policy
two analyze theories and models of human behavior
two present theories of social work practice
one teaches about diversity, oppression, and human rights
one teaches the methods of empirical research
two provide supervised field instruction.

Second-year M.S.W. students must complete ten courses—6 credits of a supervised field internship and the following classroom courses:

two courses in advanced social work practice
one course in social work assessment and diagnosis
one course in advanced social work research
one course in the organizational context for professional practice
a capstone course integrating learning across the curriculum
two elective courses.
