In March 2007, Christian P. Vaupel was elected by the Board of Trustees to the position of vice president for University Advancement at Adelphi University.

Since June 2004, Chris had served as Adelphi’s deputy vice president for University Advancement, and since October 2004, as chief development officer at Adelphi University. In this role, he was responsible for all University fundraising operations, including major and planned giving, annual giving, fundraising events, prospect research and advancement services. In addition, he serves as a member of the University’s Senior Staff; Advance Group; Campus Planning Committee; and is liaison to the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees.

From February 2000 to March 2003, Chris served as Adelphi’s director of development. He holds a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) and a master’s degree from Adelphi. In 2005, he successfully completed the Management Development Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Under Chris’ leadership, the University secured gifts and pledges of $4.6 million in fiscal 2004-05 (compared with $3.0 million in fiscal 2003-04), and gifts and pledges of $9.5 million in fiscal 2005-06. In 2006, Adelphi University secured the largest philanthropic commitment in its then 110-year history when Trustee Carol A. Ammon, M.B.A. ’79 announced her gift of $8.5 million. In recognition of this gift, the University named the School of Education in memory of Ms. Ammon’s mother, Ruth S. Ammon, a member of Adelphi’s Class of 1942.

During Chris’ tenure, the University completed a campaign planning study; recruited two honorary campaign co-chairs; four campaign chairs; and a campaign steering committee. In addition, Chris has helped to recruit seven individuals to serve as members of the Expanded Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. Volunteer involvement in fundraising activities has increased substantially, as has participation in Adelphi’s Annual Fund. In addition, the professional Advancement staff has grown from nine to 15 members.

Prior to returning to Adelphi in 2004, Chris served as associate vice president of development at the National Center for Disability Services (now Abilities!) in Albertson, New York, a not-for-profit agency dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to be active, independent, and self-sufficient participants in society. In this role, he directed the organization’s annual and planned giving programs and implemented solicitation strategies for current and prospective donors.
