Adelphi University announced last week at its Annual Wall Street Alumni Reception held in New York City, that it has received a $500,000 challenge grant for student scholarships. The gift, made by School of Business alumna and Adelphi University Board of Trustee member Carol A. Ammon M.B.A '79, will provide up to a two-for-one dollar match for gifts made by alumni, faculty, and friends of the Adelphi University School of Business. In order to meet the challenge, Adelphi must raise $250,000 for scholarships for the School of Business.

This gift marks another demonstration of Ms. Ammon’s visionary support for Adelphi. In March 2006, Ms. Ammon made the largest gift in the University’s history when she donated $8.5 million in honor of her mother Ruth S. Ammon, class of 1942.

"I strongly believe in Adelphi’s mission and the ability of its leadership to bring its goals to fruition," said Ms. Ammon. "I have been fortunate in my life to pursue and realize my dreams through hard work and opportunity.  I hope these scholarships allow a new generation of students to achieve theirs."

"Carol is an outstanding entrepreneur and a strong, generous friend to the University," said Dr. Robert A. Scott, president of Adelphi University. "Over the last several years, she has shared her expertise as a member of our Board of Trustees and benefactor of our Ruth S. Ammon School of Education. This leadership gift is yet another demonstration of her commitment to the future of the University and our students."

The gift was announced at Adelphi’s Wall Street Alumni Association event hosted by a number of Adelphi Trustees, including Michael J. Driscoll M.B.A. '89, Robert B. Willumstad '05 (Hon.), and Michael J. Campbell ’65. When the gift was announced, Board of Trustees Chairman Michael Campbell said, "On behalf of the Board, and the alumni here tonight, I say ‘Thank you, Carol.’ This gift sends the wonderful signal to our students that we believe in them and their future. Carol has once again demonstrated her extraordinary generosity and commitment to ensuring that Adelphi can continue to attract the best and the brightest students in the region."

The Ammon challenge grant will be used to match funds raised for both undergraduate and graduate scholarships for students in the Adelphi University School of Business. Gifts up to $10,000 will be matched dollar for dollar. Gifts of $10,000 and above will be matched two-for-one. The challenge runs through June 30, 2007.
