Adelphi University Receives $35,000 from Bethpage Federal Credit Union for Nonprofit Leadership Center
Garden City, NY
September 12, 2006

Adelphi University is pleased to announce that it has received a timely and generous donation of $35,000 from Bethpage Federal Credit Union to help launch The Long Island Center for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership located on its Garden City campus.
The Long Island Center for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership is a university-based, community-responsive initiative that focuses on needs essential to the overall health and viability of Long Island's nonprofit sector. Responding to the leadership crisis facing Long Island’s nonprofit organizations, the Center will focus on leadership development, particularly for new and emerging nonprofit leaders; supporting organizations during leadership transition; and assisting nonprofits with leadership and board governance issues, including strategic planning, recruitment, and board development.
"It is critical to Long Island's communities and way of life that our nonprofits flourish," stated Bethpage Federal Credit Union President and CEO Kirk Kordeleski. "Bethpage is pleased to provide seed money for this Center, which aims to support our region's nonprofits through professional exchange and educational forums."
"Through its generous gift, Bethpage Federal Credit Union has demonstrated its commitment to strengthening the nonprofits that are so vital to Long Island's economy and social fabric," said Adelphi University School of Social Work Dean Andrew Safyer. "We are grateful for Bethpage's continued support and look forward to investing our own time and resources in fostering excellence among the region's nonprofits."
