Garden City, NY

Adelphi University is pleased to announce the Kathryn T. Riley Scholarship Program.

Kathryn T. Riley M.A. '81 earned her master's degree in elementary education from Adelphi University, and served as a faculty member and then assistant principal in the Diocese of Rockville Centre Catholic School System. Through a generous contribution made in memory of Mrs. Riley, a scholarship program has been established to "show appreciation and respect for the hard working faculty in Catholic schools on Long Island," describes Mrs. Riley's family.

Through a $25,000 gift, scholarships of $1,500 each will be available to Catholic school teachers who are admitted and take graduate education courses in the Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.

To be eligible, faculty members must have been employed in a Catholic school in Nassau or Suffolk Counties for at least one year, and be on the faculty of a Catholic school during the time they are enrolled in class(es) at Adelphi University. To be considered, applicants must submit an essay on why they believe Catholic education remains important on Long Island. Essays will be reviewed by a panel of Ruth S. Ammon School of Education faculty and Adelphi University administrators.

Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Adelphi will seek to provide approximately ten scholarships for elementary school teachers and approximately five scholarships to high school teachers.
