Adelphi Establishes Thomas and Richard Lovely Scholarship for Garden City High School Graduates

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating Garden City High School senior who attends Adelphi University. The scholarship is named after two proud Garden City High School graduates: Thomas J. Lovely '75 and Richard R. Lovely '77.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must be in the top 25 percent of the senior class at Garden City High School, plan to attend Adelphi, and write and submit a 300- to 500-word essay on the topic, "What obligations must I assume in return for the priceless heritage of my freedom." Essays must be submitted to the chair of the Garden City High School Social Studies Department by May 15 of each year.  A committee of three Garden City faculty members will select the scholarship winner.  The scholarship will be presented at the Garden City High School Annual Awards Ceremony.
