Adelphi University's Sixth Annual President's Gala Honors Outstanding Executives and Alumni

Garden City, NY
January 10, 2006

Adelphi University will hold its sixth annual President’s Gala, an evening to benefit student scholarships, on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Garden City Hotel, Garden City, NY. The event will honor three leaders for their commitment to the community and the University.
About the honorees
The University will honor Carol A. Ammon, M.B.A. '79, founder and chairman of Endo Pharmaceuticals, as the 2006 Outstanding Alumna. In 1997, Ms. Ammon formed Endo Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company with market leadership in pain management, when she led a management buyout team and purchased 37 pharmaceutical products from The DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company. Endo had net sales of $615.1 million in 2004. She retired as chief executive officer of Endo in 2005 after serving in that position for eight years. She was recently chosen as the winner of the 2005 Paradigm Award, the Philadelphia region's most prestigious award for businesswomen, and in 2004 was named the CEO of the Year by the Eastern Technology Council. A trustee of Adelphi University, she also serves as director and trustee of Christiana Care of Delaware, Newark, DE; a trustee of Drexel University; and director on the Advisory Board of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association.
Robert B. Catell '99 (Hon.), chairman and CEO of KeySpan Corporation, will be honored as the 2006 Outstanding Long Island Executive. In his position at KeySpan Corporation, the largest natural gas distributor in the Northeast and New York State's largest private electric generator, Mr. Catell has demonstrated a rare ability to grow his company while keeping community commitment a priority. He serves as chairman of the board of the Long Island Association, Downtown Brooklyn Council, and the U.S. Energy Association and is a member of several other local, regional, and national boards. An in-demand speaker on energy issues both locally and across the nation, he co-authored the book The CEO and the Monk: One Company's Journey to Profit and Purpose, which was published by Wiley in 2004.
Vernon W. Hill, II, founder and chairman of Commerce Bancorp, will be honored with the 2006 Outstanding Service to Adelphi award. With a strong commitment to giving back to the communities that it serves, Commerce has been a supporter of Adelphi scholarship, athletic, and alumni programs. Commerce is recognized as a true American success story, having grown from one location with nine employees to a $35 billion multi-bank holding company with more than 330 banking offices serving six states and Washington, D.C. In 2004, Mr. Hill was named one of the top ten "Best Bosses" by Forbes for delivering the best return to stockholders while earning a fair salary commensurate with performance, and was named US Banker magazine's Bank CEO of the Year for 2003. He is a member of the board of overseers for the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
This year's black-tie gala begins with a cocktail hour at 7:00 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing. Gala co-chairs are Adelphi President Robert A. Scott; Stan Gregor '87, president/CEO, Commerce Capital Markets; David R. Manning, executive vice president and chief environmental officer, KeySpan Corporation; and Colleen Pero, senior vice president of corporate services, Endo Pharmaceuticals. Michael Harris Spector, FAIA, principal of the Spector Group, will serve as journal chair.
