Making a Charitable Bequest
The most popular planned gift is the charitable bequest which allows you to leave a lasting legacy to Adelphi. Your bequest can take the form of a specific amount, a designated asset or a percentage of your estate.

Through this method of planned giving, you are in control of the gifting process, preserve full use of your property, and can change the provisions at any time. While bequests offer no immediate income tax benefits, the full amount of the bequest is deductible for estate tax purposes.

There are several types of bequests:
  • Specific - funded with designated assets such as cash, securities, real estate, or personal property
  • Residuary - designates a share of your estate after providing for your heirs
  • Testamentary Trusts - provides one or more of your heirs with income for life, after which the assets are transferred to Adelphi.

Please contact the Office of University Advancement if you are planning to make a bequest. We can assist you and your attorney in planning and executing the bequest or adding a codicil to your will.

Alumni and friends who support the University through estate planning become members of The Ruth S. Harley Society.
