Personal Statement

Personal Statement

In the course of my career as an academic librarian, my professional interests have included science librarianship, information literacy, assessment (learning and services), and academic library leadership. My practice as an academic librarian informs the research which interests me--and since my career as a librarian has been evolving for the last three decades, my research interests have been changing.

Research is really an integral part of my practice. Qualitative and quantitative analyses that I conduct (or really are conducted through my current office/role as a dean of a university library) on a regular basis, constitute primary tangible evidence of my current research practice. In my position as administrator, I am a constant consumer of research about higher education, libraries, and leadership, and as such remain engaged with scholarly thought in my professional sphere. In my prior academic positions as a library faculty member at other colleges and universities, I conducted research focusing on information literacy learning and assessment. My current scholarly/professional activities include membership on the editorial board of the Urban Library journal, and board member of two library consortia, ConnectNY and the Long Island Libraries Resources Council. I also was appointed to Academic Advisory Committee member of the Metropolitan Resource Library Council, New York City.
