Personal Statement

I teach because I believe that knowledge is power and by teaching others I empower them. By empowering others I not only enable individuals to make informed decisions, I increase the amount of choices they can make. However, I believe that in order to feel good about the decisions we make, we must learn to put our virtues first. For when we feel good about ourselves our desire to learn is perpetuated.

Although I teach I can not make one learn, however I can facilitate learning. As a facilitator, I try to make learning fun by using innovative approaches, incorporating various game shows into my lectures and keeping learning student centered. By making learning exciting I hope to instill in students an overwhelming desire and passion to learn, so they're able to journey to a place that goes way beyond what I teach.

I love teaching and teaching nursing students affords me the opportunity to plant seeds from which knowledge abounds. Furthermore, by providing a platform where students can grow and learn, I am helping them achieve their dreams of becoming professional nurses. As future nurses, our students will be responsible for meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the clients they serve. It is my responsibility to prepare nursing students for this challenge by not only teaching clinical skills, theoretical concepts and by way of example, but also by impressing upon students the importance of learning how to access resources. In order to maintain patient safety in the 21st century, it is imperative that students equip themselves with a collection of resources that enables them to continuously grow and one day empower the people they serve.
