General Education Requirements and Policies

| How to Fulfill General Education Requirements

While General Education is required of all students, the way these requirements are met is determined by the status with which the student enters the University.

Entering Freshman
Must meet all General Education requirements as specified in the General Education Requirements.

Transfer Students with fewer than 30 credits
These students must satisfy all the requirements.  Transfer credits can be used to satisfy General Education requirementss.

Transfer Students with 30-59 credits
These students are exempt from the Freshman Seminar and Freshman Orientation Experience. They must satisfy all the other requirements. Transfer credits can be used to satisfy General Education requirements.

Transfer Student with 60 or more credits but without an Associates or Bachelors Degree who enter prior to Fall 2012
These students are exempt from the Freshman Seminar, Freshman Orientation Experience, and the Second Competency. They must meet the Social Sciences and Math/Science Distribution requirements.  They may meet the Arts and Humanities distribution requirements by taking a total of 12 credits in those two areas.  It can be all Arts or all Humanities or some of each.

Transfer Student with 60 or more credits but without an Associates or Bachelors Degree who enter Fall 2012 or later
These students are exempt from the Freshman Seminar, Freshman Orientation Experience. They must meet all other requirements. They may meet the Arts and Humanities distribution requirements by taking a total of 12 credits in those two areas.  It can be all Arts or all Humanities or some of each

Transfer Students with an A.A., A.S., B.A., or B.S. Degree
These students are exempt from all General Education Requirements.  Note that this exemption is not granted to students with an A.A.S. (Associates in Applied Sciences) degree.

Once a student becomes enrolled at Adelphi that student cannot take classes to meet Learning Goals requirements at another institution
