Much of my work conveys concepts of time, change, and movement within the context of a personal narrative as an artist, mother, daughter, wife, and friend. "Mystic Movement" consists of three identical forms that can be positioned in a myriad of ways to provide that desired element of change. The forms look part animal, part human, and have organic or botanical qualities. They sparkle with intensity and light. This sculpture can be perceived as the dance of spinning whirling dervishes; or as the concept of time, as a circle consisting of three phases: past, present, future; birth, life, death; or beginning, middle, end—each unfolding itself to the next and continuing infinitely. Also referenced in this sculpture is the idea of Thomas Aquinas' three requisites for beauty: wholeness or perfection, harmony or proportion, and radiance. Does this triad hold up to such principles or is it merely a gesture of a simple curtsy? A bow as thanks for the gift of being able to combine three essential elements when experiencing a different aesthetic viewpoint: art, viewer, and setting.
