In "Man Monument" I attempted to make palpable the supposedly "empty" space of an inferred or encapsulated "figure of man." The edges of that empty space are defined with a sturdy block-like form of welded diamond tread plate representing what might more normally be considered the surrounding negative or non-figurative space. The staccato rhythm of the diamond pattern suggests a tombstone inscription or even the wedge- shaped characters used in ancient writing systems. "Head Columns I and II" moves away from any foreboding and is more open, expansive, and optimistic. I trust viewers may experience more than I can or wish to write about as they enter, occupy, and pass through the sculptures.
