In today's fast paced and interconnected global community, a liberal arts education is more important than ever. Adelphi University has earned a reputation for meeting the challenges of 21st century liberal arts curricula with energy and zeal. The Biennial Sculpture Exhibition is a visible demonstration of this university's commitment to the liberal arts. It affords a wonderful opportunity for students, professors and the rest of the Adelphi community to experience contemporary art on a daily basis. Whether in transit between classes or in more reflective moments while sitting outside in our beautifully landscaped campus, this ongoing exhibition becomes an integral part of our everyday experience.

This, the sixth outdoor sculpture biennial, once again assembles a collection of works that present the viewer with a variety of aesthetic experiences while, in some cases, challenging him or her to speculate on the nature of art itself. The ten artists selected for this exhibition are all highly regarded and their works enhance the campus with art that embodies visual invention, conceptual sophistication and personal passion.

President Robert Scott's enthusiastic involvement in this endeavor, and his support of the arts in general over the years, has helped inspire the resurgence of Adelphi as a center for artistic expression on Long Island. The entire university shares his enthusiasm and embraces the vibrancy that visual art and the performing arts bring to our campus. The Department of Art and Art History takes pride in this exhibition and hopes both the university and its visitors find meaning and enjoyment in the work presented here.
