Outdoor Sculpture Biennial Welcome

Adelphi University is fast becoming an integral element of the arts on Long Island. New facilities for the performing arts, dance, music, and theatre were completed this fall, and along with its visual arts programs they will make Adelphi a center of artistic energy.

This commitment to the arts is publicly visible as Adelphi presents its Sculpture Biennial for 2008. The works are presented in a splendid outdoor setting that only enhances the large-scale sculptures on view. The works speak for themselves and for the serious intent of the artists who made them. The sculptures selected for this year’s Biennial challenge and delight. The artists and styles are diverse and offer an opportunity to explore a variety of approaches to outdoor contemporary artworks. Not only do they offer visual pleasure for students and visitors to Adelphi’s beautiful campus, but also they raise questions about what art is and its place in our everyday experience.

We are in the midst of expansion at Adelphi and the Sculpture Biennial is a symbol of the artistic growth that comes from a commitment to the arts that is serious and ongoing.

It is hoped that all will enjoy this new addition to the artistic experience at Adelphi and that this Biennial will add to the already existing energy that is present on campus.
